If you’ll check the official website of WhatsApp, in the Download section, you’ll see the 2.12.44 APK version, but on various third party sources, a new version is available for download. According to Android Police, the latest 2.12.45 APK comes with the option to Backup and Restore from Google Drive.
WhatsApp is continuously improving and the developers are releasing updates every few days, with many improvements in matter of performance and other bug fixes. The Android community is more than pleased that WhatsApp’s developers are spoiling them with many software updates and new features, a new Material Design update. The most awaited features were Voice Calling and WhatsApp Web, which allows the users to log into their accounts from their computers, using a supported browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Opera. Now, a new option has been added to boost the popularity of WhatsApp – Backup and Restore from Google Drive.
This option is available along with the 2.12.45 and if we check the translation history, you can notice that the feature allows backing up chat history and media, except for videos. However, this feature might work only for WiFi or 3G networks. If you want to test this feature, download WhatsApp v2.12.45 from the APK mirror, and after installing it, you will have access to the Backup option by going to Settings>Chat Settings>Chat Backup, where you’ll see information such as the last time you performed a backup and another list of disabled or grayed out Google Drive Settings.
Normally, the daily backup is set to start at 4:00AM, but it’s not certain yet if you can change the schedule and set up automatic backups at a different hour, but you can perform a manual backup and there’s a button for this option. You data will be transferred to Google Drive, but we must warn you not to interrupt the backup process. If you’ll lose the WiFi connection, the device will switch to 3G connection, so make sure that both your device’s wireless radio and mobile network data are enabled.
