On October 16, Google announced the new Android OS 5.0, called Lollipop.
The new OS is available for Google Nexus devices for now, but many premium manufacturers are hoping to get it as soon as possible. Some of the core changes in the new OS are in the design, the way notifications are displayed, and the support for the Android TV. Another important improvement is in the battery section, where Google claims to have managed to prolong the life of the battery with the new Battery saver mode. Here are some of Samsung’s and HTC’s devices that are primed to get the update.
Leaked Rumors Regarding Samsung and Lollipop
Samsung was not one of the companies to confirm updates to its premium flagships regarding the new OS. However, some of the leaked rumors suggest that the owners of the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge won’t have to wait long in order to get Lollipop. Sources are claiming that the S5 will get the upgrade in December, with US users first to get a taste of Lollipop. Samsung has also confirmed via tweets that the Note 4 is another device that should get the update as well. Some sources have made a prediction, based on the history of Samsung. According to this, the Note 4 should get the update in January, followed by the Note Edge in February. Older devices such as the Note 3, S4 and some of the lower end handsets such as Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy K Zoom, Galaxy Grand Prime and Galaxy Ace Style are destined to get the update somewhere between March 2015 and July 2015.
Rumors Regarding HTC and Lollipop
Following the announcement of the new OS, HTC has confirmed that four of their devices will get the update as soon as possible. The first four in line are the HTC One, the HTC One M8, the HTC One Mini and HTC One Mini 2. There is no exact timetable, but sources believe December-January is a possibility. Besides the four confirmed, leaked rumors suggest that other devices from HTC are going to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop as well. Those are the Desire Eye, HTC One E8, HTC Butterfly 2, HTC Butterfly S, HTC Desire 816 and HTC One Max. There is no timetable for these devices as well, with sources suggesting March-June as a possible time frame.
Devices with the MediaTek chipset from HTC are also being considered for the update, but nothing is certain.
