Galaxy Note Edge vs iPhone 6 Plus – A Phablet With A Curved Display and A Phablet With Flat Display

This fall offered us some of the most exciting gadgets and it’s our right to choose the one that we like and need, according to our budget. And if the budget is generous, we can take into consideration buying a large phone with high end specifications, and since phablets have become so popular, many manufacturers released their products, hoping to win your hearts. Our comparison is between Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge and Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus.

Designs

The Note Edge looks almost the same as the Galaxy Note 4, except for the fact that it comes with that curved display on the right edge, which is eye-pleasing, but not as uncouth as its sibling. The iPhone 6 Plus is more elegant and thinner at the same time and the aluminum build makes the phone feel great in hand. This phablet measures 158.1×77.8x 7.1 mm and has a weight of 172grams, with 2grams less than the Edge, which measures 151.3×82.4×8.3 mm, but this device has an S Pen stylus which will facilitate your “mission” of operating on a large screen. The iPhone 6 Plus lacks the stylus, but has a fingerprint sensor like the Samsung phablet, only it’s Visa, MasterCard, AMEX certified.

Displays

The iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5inches display (LED-backlit IPS LCD) whose resolution was set at 1080×1920 pixels and the given pixel resolution is 401ppi. The screen is protected with shatter proof glass and has a maximum brightness of 574nits, which is noticeable indoors.

The Note Edge comes with a slightly bigger display of 5.6inches (Super AMOLED) which also benefits from protection, but it’s Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The resolution is higher at 1600×2560 pixels and the pixel density is better at 524ppi, which means that it’s more detailed, sharper and clearer. However, the maximum brightness reaches 496nits and the minimum brightness gets to 4 nits, compared to 1nit on the iPhone 6 Plus.

Hardware

The Samsung phablet is powered by a 2.7GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and it was built on a 28nm HPM process. Combined with an Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM, the Krait 450 processor offers a great performance. The iPhone 6 Plus features a 20nm Apple-designed chip which was built on ARMv8 64-bit architecture and has a Cyclone processor with only two cores, clocked at 1.4GHz. Thanks to the PowerVR GX6450 GPU, the Apple phablet works like a charm, despite the fact that it hosts only 1GB of RAM.

While the Note Edge has two variants of internal memories of 32 and 64GB, which support expansion up to 128GB, the iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t offer you this “privilege” and you’ll have to opt for one of the three variants of 16, 64 and 128GB.

Cameras

The iPhone 6 Plus has an 8MP iSight rear camera with features such as 1.5um pixels and f/2.2 lens, phase detecting auto focus, optical image stabilization and dual-LED flash, and the front camera is 1.2MP.

The Note Edge has the same cameras as the Note 4: a 16MP one on the back with f/2.2 lens, LED flash, phase detection auto focus and optical image stabilization, while the front camera has a resolution of 3.7MP.

Batteries

The Note Edge has a 3000mAh battery, with 200mAh smaller than the battery from the Note 4. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with a built in battery of 2915 mAh.
