GoPro Hero 5 Release Date In Late 2015 With 4K Recording at 60fps

The release of the GoPro Hero 5 was delayed for the end of 2015, but the wait will be worth it, because the rumors are indicating a major improvement in specifications, as GoPro aims to shock the adrenaline enthusiasts. The Hero 4 was sold very well, over 2.4 million units being sold in the Q3 of 2014, and we’re pretty sure the Hero 5, which is rumored to come in September or October, will dominate the action camera market.

The Hero 4 came with a 12MP CMOS and an f/2.8 fixed maximum aperture. It’s capable to shoot 4K videos at frame rate of 24, 25 (only in Superview mode) and 30 fps, and the battery lasts around 65 minutes when shooting 4k/30 with WiFi disabled. The Hero 4 Silver variant is like a HERO3+ Black, only that it has a touch screen and supports WiFi. The Hero 3 is powered by an A7 processor and records 4K videos at a rate of 15 frames per second.

According to rumors, the Hero 5 will be powered by an A10 processor, will support 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, being the first action camcorder that will be able to shoot the same resolution at the same frame rate. Also, the Hero 5 will record footage of 1080p at 120 fps and of 720p at 240 fps. This fall will bring changes in matter of resolution, as 8K is rumored to be possible, but at a lower frame rate.

The camera will be waterproof, surviving up to 60 meters under water. So, if you’re one of those scuba divers who want to explore the underwater world, the Hero 5 will be more capable of recording clear videos at a greater depth, since the Hero 4 is capable of enduring up to 20 meters.

The device will support WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and will have an HDMI port. The battery is rumored to be very small, at 2,800 mAh, but it could be 1.5 times more efficient than the battery from the current model.

The rumors are pointing to a dual-lens set-up, and the device will support 3D technology. GoPro is promoted on YouTube and earned a place in Adweek’s Top 10 Best Brand Channels in 2014.

The price of the upcoming camera is expected to be between 400 and 500 dollars. Currently, the Hero 4 Black costs 500 dollars on shop.gopro.com, but we’re convinced that GoPro will slash its price as the release of the Hero 5 is approaching.
