Head to Head: Nexus 6 vs LG G3

Head to Head: Nexus 6 vs LG G3 By – Oct 26, 2014 0 3 SHARE

Google has introduced a new Nexus phone in the market; the Nexus 6. With a huge 5.9-inch display, Nexus 6 certainly falls in the phablet category, where it would run against LG G3, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and other extra-large smartphones. Out of all these smartphones, Nexus 6 and LG G3 share some features though they are still different. Here is a comparison between the new Nexus vs LG G3.

The Nexus 6 features a massive 5.9-inch AMOLED display with a 1440×2560 pixels Quad HD resolution and 493 ppi pixel density. On the other hand, the LG G3 comes with a smaller 5.5-inch True HD IPS LCD display though it has the same resolution as the Nexus handset. The LG G3 boasts a killer display. The combination of the massive screen and the high resolution offer a great viewing experience.

The Nexus 6 has a plastic exterior with a metal frame that covers the sides of the phone, providing an elegant look to the huge device. The LG G3 has a plastic exterior with a metallic effect which gives the handset the much-loved elegant look. While neither of these phones is water resistant, the Google Nexus 6 can withstand some light water splashes without getting damaged. Doing the same to the G3 may lead to irreversible damage.

If you like big phones, you may want to consider the Google Nexus 6. With 3.27 inches width and 6.27 inches length, the new Nexus overshadows the LG G3 phone by a considerable margin. The LG G3 is 5.76 inches long and 2.94 inches. When it comes to thickness, Nexus is 0.40-inch thick while the LG is 0.35-inch thick. Unsurprisingly, Nexus is heavier than G3 weighing 6.49oz (184 g), while the G3 weighs only 5.26oz (149 g).

Another factor that differentiates the Nexus 6 from the LG G3 is the software running on them. While both are Android-powered, Nexus 6 runs on an Android 5.0 Lollipop OS while the G3 features an Android 4.4 OS. The Lollipop aims to deliver an intuitive and friendly user experience. It also brings enhanced multitasking, improved notifications, and battery life improvements. On the other hand, LG has loaded a feature-rich custom user interface on the G3.

Processor and memory

Google Nexus 6 has more processing power. It uses Snapdragon 805 quad-core Krait 450 processor with a top clock speed of 2.7GHz and a 3GB RAM. The LG G3 uses Snapdragon 801 quad-core Krait 400 processor with a 2.5GHz speed

Nexus 6 features a 13MP rear camera with an optical image stabilization, 4K video support, F2.0 aperture and dual LED ring flash. The LG G3 shares the same camera features with Nexus 6 with the exception of the F2.4 aperture and the dual-tone LED flash.

Battery Life

According to Google, the Nexus 6 has a 3220mAh battery capable of lasting 24 hours of usage. While talk time is about 24 hours, watching video or web browsing can drain the cell after 10 hours of usage. The Nexus 6 also boasts rapid charging capability. The LG G3 has a 3000mAh battery with a talk time of 21 hours.

Price and Release Date

When it comes to price, it seems the times of cheap Nexus phone are long gone as the new Nexus 6 will carry a price tag of USD650 (unlocked, off-contract). But the LG G3 can be found at around USD500 off-contract at different retailers. While the new Nexus 6 has already been launched, it would be released in November 12. Meanwhile, it can be pre-ordered from October 29.

The Nexus 6 is water resistant. Says so on Motorolas site. And by you saying “… the Google Nexus 6 can withstand some light water splashes without getting damaged.” That is the definition of water resistant.

I think both of the devices are best in its place and category. The only major difference might be the OS. Nexus 6 runs on the latest Android version, whereas LG G3 still on the KitKat version. I even recently ordered Nexus 6 and waiting for my product to get delivered at my doorsteps along with Multi Port USB Charger that can charge up to 6 devices with rapid charging and auto detection feature.
