The Desire 612 is expected to be the answer HTC has for battling the likes of Motorola Moto G2.
The new device is allegedly expected to hit Verizon in the next few weeks. What can you expect from the new handset from HTC? Let’s break it down and see what we know so far.
Release Date Rumors
Verizon announced it plans to offer the new handset from HTC in the coming weeks on October 9. However, the device still hasn’t hit the market, so you can be sure that might happen either by the end of this week, or at the start of next one.
Design and Display
The new handset from HTC looks a bit more stylish than other handsets in the budget market. The device is wrapped in a plastic black shell, with red sides. The Desire 612 carries over some of the design tricks found in the One M8 such as the front Boom Sound speakers. Other than that, what you get is a standard HTC device with the company logo placed below the screen and the Verizon logo above the display. The display size is set to be 4.7 inches, delivering a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. That translates to 312ppi, which is a huge upgrade from the Desire 610. There is no confirmation yet regarding dimensions and weight, but given the added logos, the phone should grow following the dimensions of the Desire 610 (143 x 71 x 9.6).
Hardware and Operating System
HTC has learned its lesson and powered the Desire 612 with a processor that can handle heavy tasks and open more windows. The Desire 612 features a quad core processor with maximum speed set at 1.2 GHz and 1 GB RAM. Internal storage is limited to 8 GB, but users can add 128 GB via microSD card. Out of the box, the Desire 612 will run on Android 4.4 KitKat, with the Sense 6.0 skin on top of it.
Rumors suggest that HTC Desire 612 might have an 8-MP sensor on the back of the device, and a 1.3-MP shooter on the front. Powered by LED flash, the back camera can take solid pictures even in low light conditions. Standard features in the camera applications include HDR, touch focus and face detection. HTC has also added the option to simultaneously record video and images.
With a contract that runs through 24 months, the device will be free. However, the price for the SIM free version is not known yet.
