The Surface Pro line from Microsoft blends laptop and tablet characteristics into one single device, and so far people are receiving the combination well, as the we have now reached the 3rd installment in the series. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 comes with several changes from the Microsoft Pro 2, and we would like to show you what they are exactly. Let’s get started and find out more about the two.
The Surface Pro 2 measures 274 x 173 x 13.5 mm and weighs 907 grams. This makes it heavier than the Surface Pro 3 which measures 292 x 201 x 9 mm and weighs 800 grams, being slimmer than its predecessor as well. The metal chassis design is the reason why we have such an increased weight.
The Surface Pro 2 comes with a 10.6 inch display that uses the Clear Type Full HD screen. The Surface Pro 3 also has the Clear Type Full HD technology implemented, but uses it at a pretty higher resolution, so even though the two devices are using the same technology, the Surface Pro 3’s screen will look better.
With the two Surface Pro devices, you also get access to Office 365, One Drive, Lync, and others. This is due to the fact that they both come bearing the same operating system, which is the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
The Surface Pen
The Surface Pro 3 has improved a lot, but not only on the design side, as the device also comes with a better Surface Pen than its predecessor. While the Surface Pen used with the Surface Pro 2 was really good and made life way easier for a lot of people who were using it, the new Surface Pen works even better, as it now features a button on top that you can use to make the device execute various commands or when you are jotting notes down on your Surface Pro 3. You can also use the pen as an eraser for when you make an error, on top of being able to access many more other features .
We know that the Surface Pro 3 is better than its predecessor on the outside now, but what about the inside? What has changed in terms of specs and power? Well, for starters, the Surface Pro 3 features an Intel Core i3 processing unit which can be updated to an i5 or i7 processor. The Surface Pro 3 on the other hand only gives you the option of upgrading ot an i5 processing unit.
The Surface Pro 2 is available on Amazon.com for about $394, while the Surface Pro 3 can be bought for about $800.
