Moto 360 vs. LG G Watch R – Specs, Features and PriceMoto 360 vs. LG G Watch R – Specs, Features and Price

Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R are the latest devices in the Android Wear line.

While the first was released already, the second one is just about to hit the stores. Which one of them is going to be more popular with consumers? And which is the better option? Let’s break it down.

Design and Display

Unlike other smartwatches in the Android Wear line, the Moto G and the G Watch R use more of a traditional, circular and round form. One of the flaws of the Moto 360 is the black bar found on the bottom of the watch. While users claim they don’t notice it even more after some time, it is not like the bar is going to disappear. The Moto 360 has also taken a more minimalistic approach to the design, with no numbers or anything on the display. The LG G Watch, on the other hand, delivers more numbers and other stuff on the display, and looks a lot like a designer watch. Both devices are made out of stainless steel, with the Moto 360 offering leather and steel bands to complement the device. The Moto 360 is also available in two colors, black and grey, while the only color for the G Watch R is black. The buttons are placed elegantly on the side, which is common for traditional watches.

The Moto 360 features a 1.56 inch display, with resolution set at 320x290pixels, translating to 209ppi. The G Watch R comes with a slightly smaller display, set at 1.3 inches. However, LG promises users can use 100% of the display, while the Moto 360 still has that black bar on the bottom. The resolution of the G Watch R is set at 320x320pixels, which is 246ppi.

Hardware and Operating System

There is not much difference in the hardware options. Both devices come with a 512MB RAM memory and 4GB of internal built in space. The difference is in the CPU used with LG opting for the Snapdragon 400, while Motorola going for Texas Instrument OMAP 3. Both devices belong in the Android Wear line, with the first generation of the OS installed in them. Android Wear is a more customizable OS than others on the market, with special integration of Google applications. It is expected that the devices will also get the upgrade for the Android Wear 2.0. The Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R can connect only to Android devices. There is no limitation regarding the device, it can be one manufactured by HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG and others.

Battery

One of the two main downsides of the Moto 360 is battery life. The capacity is set at 320 mAh, but users were quick to point that the device lasts only for 12 hours. In the world of smartwatches, that is way too little. The G Watch R comes with a 410 mAh battery, and the company has described the battery life as long lasting.

Price

The G Watch R looks to be the most expensive smartwatch in the Android Wear line. With a price of $330, it is close to the price of Apple watches. The Moto 360, on the other hand, costs just $250.

Moto 360 battery life is amazing after the latest software update, it lasted more then 30 hours straight for me, I took it off the charger at 8 am, boarded an 11 hours flight at 4pm and then use it for another 12 hours, so who ever says that the watch have a bad battery life does not know what he is talking about.

They know what they’re taking about just fine, you’re obviously not using ambient mode. Some of us feel that you shouldn’t have to jiggle a watch around in front of your face and hope it detects it to turn the display on. The battery life has improved with ambient mode enabled, but is still a joke overall compared to other smart watches. You might get 16 hours if you’re LUCKY, which means a full day at work and maybe dinner afterwards.

I dunno about you but I often get up at 7am and don’t get home until 2am hanging out, which means a brick on my wrist.

People should also bear in mind the $330 figure that is being thrown around is rubbish – it’s bad maths.
Amazon France have it listed at 267 euros. Which translates to £201 and $270.
The Moto 360 is selling for £199 in the UK – so I expect the LG G Watch R to be roughly the same price, or maybe a tiny bit more expensive at £210.

We don’t know that for sure – that is the price Expansys have it at – but you (and I) don’t know where they got that figure from, they themselves say on their website it is a pre-order price and you will be guaranteed to pay the lower price, which means the price could indeed fall before it is officially launched.

This is not a review, but a retelling of specs.

I love my moto 360 so much more now that I got a new band for it. I got a great stainless steel one from FunWatchBands.com and if you use code “moto360″ you can get 10% off!
