Samsung has earned its reputation for building world class mobile phones with a durable life. The nexus series, a google undertaking, holds a special place in the smartphone market as this device is developed by the pioneers of Android itself and therefore making it the most advanced device that is released every year. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus and the Nexus 6, both are the latest flagships models from these manufacturers which boasts powerful performance but differ on certain parameters.
Here is a brief comparison of the Nexus 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus:
The Nexus 6 has entered the phablet market with the introduction of this new device in its portfolio. The nexus 6 is a big device which takes a lot of inspiration from the MOTO X2 in terms of design. It has a very clean look and feels premium to use. High quality materials and the sophisticated design give it a modern look.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus follows the familiar Samsung design which can now be recognised in any part of the world. Use of high quality materials like textured back makes it stand apart from the rest of the Samsung line up giving clear indication that it is the companies flagship device.
Being a premium device, both these phones offer superior build quality and classic design, but the enormous size of Nexus 6 makes it a little hard to handle with a single hand and to carry in the pocket, the Samsung S5 Plus owing to its compact dimensions feels a lot more comfortable to operate. Apart from that S5 Plus is also completely water resistant, unlike the Nexus 6 which has a water resistant coating to protect it from splashes of water.
Motorola has entered the Quad HD brigade with the Nexus 6 which boasts a 5.96 inches QHD AMOLED display. Its pixel density is rated at 493 PPI which the lowest amongst all QHD phones available in the market. Samsung has equipped its latest device with a tried and tested Super AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution, though not a QHD, but with a smaller 5.2 inches screen size, the pixel density is rated at 423 PPI which is not at all bad by any standards.
Both the phone have similar screens that are capable of producing astonishing colour contrasts. But with a bigger display and a higher resolution, Nexus 6 takes the lead here.
The nexus 6 comes equipped with a latest 13 megapixel sensor that has optical image stabilization and dual LED flash. OIS is an advantage of this phone which helps in producing sharp and vibrant photographs. The Samsung S5 Plus comes with the tried and tested 16 megapixel shooter which is known for producing excellent images even without OIS.
While both have equally capable cameras, the 16 megapixel unit on Samsung S5 Plus is slightly better than the Nexus.
The Nexus 6 is practically one of the most powerful performance device available in the market. Motorola has included the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset running at 2.65 GHz which is coupled with 3GB of RAM, these specs give this phone immense processing capabilities making the phone very smooth and swift to operate.
The Samsung S5 Plus is powered by a relatively older Snapdragon 801 processor which clocks at 2.5 GHz. Along with that, it has given 2GB of RAM which is not a lot, but still sufficient. The nexus comes with a 3220 mAh battery which is slightly better than the Samsung’s 2800mAh, but both phone offer similar battery backup.
Performance parameters clearly indicate that advantage lies with Nexus due to its latest hardware and a pure android software.
Both the phones are similarly priced as Nexus 6 is available at a price of 649 USD and Samsung S5 Plus is available at 600 USD. Out the two, the Nexus 6 comes out to be better device as it is more advanced than its competition and provides a pure android experience.
