Nexus 5 vs iPhone 5S – Google vs Apple in Flagship Battle By – Dec 10, 2014 3 0 SHARE

These phones were released in 2013, and Google teamed up with LG to manufacture the Nexus 5, but Apple is not easy to defeat, knowing its history in making good-quality devices. The iPhone 5S is one of the smartphones that won many hearts, many phone users being attracted by its beautiful construction. And not only.

The Nexus is taller and has a plastic casing with two variants of colors: white and black. The material has a matte effect, there is a slight curvature toward the edges and the sides are flat, with rounded corners. The iPhone 5S has a combination of aluminum + glass on its back, with two thick white bands at the top and at the bottom. The Nexus has dimensions of 137.9×69.2×8.6 mm and a weight of 130grams, being 18grams heavier than the iPhone 5S, which measures 123.8×58.6×7.6 mm and it’s available in three variants of colors: space grey, silver and gold. Inside the round home button hides a fingerprint sensor with 500 dpi pixel density. The Nexus 5 benefits from other kind of protection, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is used to protect the front panel.

The screen on the Nexus 5 is True HD IPS+ and measures 4.95inches, featuring a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and 445ppi. Compared to it, the iPhone 5S seems a minion, but it’s easier to hold and operate on. Its display is LED-backlit IPS LCD, sized at 4inches, but the resolution is way lower at 640×1136 pixels with 326ppi. Even so, the screen is great for watching video content, but the Nexus 5 is more advanced and the Immersive Mode which comes with Android 4.4 KitKat allows you to watch everything in full-screen size.

Processors and Memories

The Nexus 5 has impressive hardware specs, but the iPhone 5S is not inferior either with a 64-bit processor. But let’s go back to Google’s phone, which is powered by a Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and having four cores that sit on a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset along with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Likewise the iPhone 5S, the Nexus 5 has unexpandable internal storage, which is available in variants of 16 and 32GB.

The iPhone 5S has another 64GB variant, but it uses 1GB of RAM and has an Apple A7 chip with a M7 co-processor and a dual core 1.3GHz Cyclone processor. Apple used PowerVR G6430 quad-core graphics, which offered great results in different tests.

The Nexus 5 ran initially on Android v4.4 (KitKat) and now, its users will enjoy the experience with the new v5.0 (Lollipop) update. The iPhone 5S ran on iOS 7, but the owners can upgrade to iOS 8.1.1.

Both cameras have rear cameras of 8MP, but they’re quite different in terms of features. The Nexus 5 features optical image stabilization, LED flash, HDR, photo sphere etc, and the iPhone 5S has dual-LED flash, 1/3” sensor size, 1.5 µm pixel size, simultaneous HD video and image recording etc. But both phones are capable of recording at the same resolution: 1080p@30fps. The front cameras are 1.3MP on the Nexus 5 and 1.2MP on the iPhone 5S.

The battery on the Nexus 5 is a lot bigger than the unit from the iPhone 5S, and we’re talking about a capacity of 2300 mAh compared to 1560 mAh. However, on the iPhone 5S you can talk only 10 hours, with 7 hours less than on the Nexus 5.
