Nexus 7 vs iPad Mini 2 – Pricing and Specifications Comparison

Apple has ruled the tablet segment since its introduction of the iPad several years ago.

Since then, it has come out with various versions of the iPad. One of the most of popular has been the iPad Mini. The second generation of the iPad Mini, the iPad Mini 2, is a device that enhances the reputation of this brand even more. Not only does it enhance the portability aspect, but it also offers a cheaper alternative to the much bigger iPad. Google has also come out with a smaller tablet of its own, the Nexus 7.

The 2013 version of the Nexus 7 will be featuring minimum physical buttons just as the iPad Mini 2. The Apple device has always been known to set the benchmark when it comes to quality. Asus are the manufacturers of the Nexus 7. They have made a device that is on par with – if not better than- the iPad Mini 2 in terms of quality. The Nexus 7 uses plastic for most of its exterior, but that does not prevent the device from coming up with a premium feel.

The Nexus 7 and iPad Mini 2 are primarily going to be used as multimedia devices for playing movies, games, and music. In this aspect, the Nexus 7 fares slightly better than the iPad Mini 2 partly because of the positioning of its speakers. The iPad Mini 2 comes with the speakers in one end of the device. This often leads to situations where users will be left into thinking that there is only one speaker on the device. The Nexus 7, on the other hand, features speakers at either end of the device and they serve to provide a stereo effect.

User Interface

The iPad Mini 2 features the incredibly popular iOS 7 that came out only recently, while the Nexus 7 features the android 4.4 version. Since both devices come with the latest versions of the operating systems, users can expect the best of features. For those looking for more customization, the Nexus 7 offers more value like the android smartphones. Users will be able to add widgets and customize various aspects of the device, while the iPad Mini 2 restricts users to largely moving the icons and changing wallpapers.

This has not always been a selling point of a tablet PC, but that has not prevented Google and Apple from offering a great camera in both these devices. They both come with the same 5-megapixel unit, but the quality is significantly better in the iPad Mini 2. The images from the Nexus 7 appear to have a lot of contrast. As a result, they appear washed out in certain instances. The iPad Mini 2 also performs much better in low light conditions due to a larger sensor.

This is one of the strong points of the Nexus 7, as it retails for around half of the price of the iPad Mini 2. The top end Nexus 7 with 32 GB storage comes at around $ 230, while the iPad Mini 2 is $ 354.
