If your old phone just broke down and you’re in desperate need for a new one. But you don’t have too much money to invest on a high-end device, there are alternatives. And Nokia sells many cheap phones, but in this article we’ll focus on two of their handsets, the Nokia X and Lumia 625.
These devices have glossy plastic rear panels with round edges, but the corners are more rounded on the Lumia 625. The Nokia X has a minimalist look, only one capacitive button bellow the screen, while the Lumia 625 has three capacitive buttons and an extra camera button, besides the volume rocker and power button from the right side. The Nexus X is thicker, measuring 10.4mm, compared to 9.2mm, but it’s shorter, at 115.5mm, compared to 133.3mm. The X weights around 129grans and the Lumia 625 is 30grams heavier.
Both handsets use IPS LCD displays with the same resolution of 480x800pixels, but because it’s smaller, X’s 4inches display supports a higher pixel density of 233, while the Lumia 625 with its 4.7inches display offers only 199ppi. However, the Lumia 625 benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, so you won’t have to worry about scratches.
Processors and operating systems
The Nokia X is powered by a dual core 1GHz Cortex-A5 which might not live up to your expectations. The phone uses a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play that backs an Adreno 203 GPU and has only 512MB of RAM and 4GbB of internal storage, expendable up to 32GB. The Lumia 625 is a little bit faster with a dual core 1.2GHz Krait processor based on a Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon, which uses Adreno 305 graphics and 512MB of RAM, but at least has a doubled memory capacity, which supports expansion up to 64GB.
The X is Nokia’s experiment with Android and runs on v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), while the Lumia 625 comes with Microsoft Windows Phone 8, which is upgradeable to v8.1.
The Nokia X has a mediocre camera on the back of 3.15Mp and lacks a secondary camera. Plus, it doesn’t have LED flash or autofocus, but at least it features a 1/5” sensor size. The Lumia 625 has a 5MP primary camera which records at 1080p@30fps and has another VGA front camera.
The Nokia X has the advantage to allow you to replace the battery at some point, but its capacity is very small at 1500mAh. On this phone, you’ll be able to talk only 10 hours and a half, with five hours less than on the Lumia 625, which features a 2000 mAh battery.
As we were saying, these phones are very cheap, but the Nokia X is even cheaper at 122 dollars. The Lumia 625 is priced at 175 dollars on Amazon.
