Countries like India have a thing for cheaper but still good devices and will most often turn down a new high end product such as the flagship handsets from Samsung, HTC, Apple or Sony to buy something more affordable like the Grand Prime or the Grand 2. Since there are quite a few models within the Galaxy Grand line, we are giving you a hand in deciding which one is for you, with this hardware comparison.
One thing these two have in common is the fact that they are Dual SIM devices, meaning you can pack two SIM cards in it and are good to go, rather than dragging two separate mobile phones wherever you go. This practice is very popular in India hence these devices also appeal a great deal to the Indian market.
In terms of display, the Galaxy Grand Prime is the one with the smaller unit, featuring 5 inches and a resolution of 960 x 540. The pixel density is accordingly, 280 ppi. The Galaxy Grand 2 features a larger display that measures 5.25 inches. The resolution is also higher, 1280 x 720, but the pixel density is lower, with only 220 ppi available.
Hardware and Software Comparison
Th Galaxy Grand Prime comes with a 1.2 GHz quad core processor branded Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, according to GSM Arena, backed up by the Adreno 306 GPU. Its opponent for today also comes with a 1.2 GHz processor although not the same model. The Grand 2 features the Snapdragon 400 quad core processing unit, and for graphic support it relies on the Adreno 305 GPU.
Both devices operate under Google’s Android KitKat software.
When it comes to the amount of storage these two devices have at their disposal, it’s a tie as both feature no less than 8 GB of internal storage. The situation is a little different when it comes to the RAM capacity. The Samsung Galaxy Gran Prime features 1 GB of RAM while the Galaxy Grand 2 comes with 1.5 GHz of RAM, giving it the edge.
The camera is another important factor so it couldn’t miss from our comparison. The camera on the Galaxy Grand 2 features 8 MP, and so does the one on the Galaxy Grand Prime. The difference lies with the front facing, secondary shooter, which has 1.9 MP on the Grand 2, but 5 MP on the Prime.
Both devices come with a removable battery with a 2600 mAh capacity in both cases, meaning that you are free to replace it if you consider it doesn’t satisfy your needs, although the capacity it carries should be enough to cover you for a good period of time.
On the Indian market, the Galaxy Grand Prime retails for the equivalent of about $246, while the Grand 2 is about $277.
