The Galaxy Note Edge is truly a remarkable device.
With new and creative ideas in almost every area, Samsung has managed to deliver a phablet that will serve as an example for future devices. The Note Edge was released together with the Note 4. And while the latter is more of a traditional phablet, the Edge offers some other features that make the phablet special.
Design and Display
For a few years, Samsung is teasing its customers with a flexible screen. And while LG beat Samsung to it, the Korean company delivers something even more extraordinary with the design of the Note Edge. The display of the phablet stretches to the right side, up to the back of the device. This flexible/curved screen serves as a secondary screen in a way. The screen offers one tap access to some frequently used applications. Therefore, you do not need to open the menu and search your favorite applications; you can open them instantly from the curved screen. Aside from the curved display, the front of the device looks like your everyday Samsung device. One thing that the company added is just a little touch of metal on the frame. The 5.6 inch screen display delivers crispness and sharpness rarely seen in a phablet. The Super AMOLED display provides resolution of 1600x2560pixels, or 524ppi. The trend of slimming down devices continues with the Edge, as the handset delivers dimensions of 151×82.4×8.3. It feels rather comfortably in the hand, thanks to the weight of just 174 grams.
Hardware and Operating System
Samsung experiments with the Note 4, equipping the device with its own Exynos chipset. For the Note Edge, however, the company sticks to the recipe that worked so well till now – the Snapdragon chipset. Powering the device is a speedy Snapdragon 805 quad core processor, clocked at 2.7GHz. Other specs include 3GB RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal memory. For those who want more memory for videos, movies, pictures or any other form of data, the handset supports external storage up to 128GB. At the moment, the Note Edge runs on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat. However, it is expected that the phablet will be one of the first devices to get the Android L upgrade.
The Note Edge is more than equipped to take any photo or record any form of video you like. With two powerful cameras, a 16-MP sensor on the back and a 3.7-MP shooter on the front, every snap is possible. The camera app comes with several features such as Dual Shot, HDR, panorama, simultaneous video and image recording and much more. And we didn’t even mention the Optical Image Stabilization and the LED flash.
Many people believe this is the weak link of the device, as the 3000 mAh battery is not enough to keep this monster running for a long time. However, there are several battery saving options, to extend the lifespan of the battery.
Such a beautiful and powerful device surely costs more than standard devices. The Note 4 is a premium handset in every aspect and the price of $800 confirms that.
