The Google Play Edition of Samsung Galaxy S4 is getting updated with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

This is among the first devices to be updated with this new mobile OS. What remains to be a huge puzzle is which device will be treated to this update next time round.

The Galaxy S4 update

The latest version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop is finally getting to the Galaxy S4 smartphones’ Google Play Edition and this version has the capability of being 492 MB larger. Furthermore, it is expected that only the devices that are currently running on the KTU84P Android 4.4.4 can install the latest update.

Make sure that the system partition is not by any means modified, as well as ensure to install stock recovery before you proceed with the update.

Phablets to be among the first beneficiaries

Two of the latest large-screen smartphones that have been dubbed phablets from Samsung are the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge, which are expected to receive this update in the first quarter of this year.

If the latest rumors are anything to go by, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will have this update before the end of this January, while the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge by the end of next month. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 3 will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update by April.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha to get updates this January

The users of the latest Samsung smartphone can have something to smile about as this device will soon be getting the long awaited update to the latest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, out of the box. This newly built Samsung mobile is rumored that it will get this update by the end of January or in early February.

Older Devices to get Exceptions

Usually, updates are never availed for devices that are older than two years. Furthermore, it is thought that devices running on at least the updated Android 4.4 will get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Devices like Samsung Galaxy S3 will not be getting this update despite its popularity. However, there are some exceptions for high flyers like Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which is more than two years old, but will still be getting the update.

Other devices in line for the update include Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini.
