Of the two siblings, the Sony Xperia Z 2A was released in June 2014, whereas the Z3 was released a few months later in September 2014.
The Z3 is available in Black; White and Copper Gold, whereas the Z2A is available in Black; White and Turquoise. The Xperia Z2A is less expensive and available for around $300, whereas the unlocked version of the Sony Xperia Z3 is available for around $560.
The Sony Xperia Z3 uses the LCD screen technology with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels offering a pixel density of 424. On the other hand, the Xperia Z2A comes with the same resolution and the same LCD display, offering a higher pixel density of 441 ppi.
Comparing Hardware Specs
The Qualcomm MSM 8974 ABSnapdragon, 801 Processor powers the Xperia Z2A, which clocks at a speed of 2.3 GHz, combined with a RAM of 3 GB and a graphics card of Adreno 330. On the other hand, the Qualcomm MSM 8974 AC, Snapdragon 801 Processor powers the Xperia Z3, clocking at 2.5 GHz. The Xperia Z3 has the Adreno 330 graphics card and a RAM of 3 GB.
Comparing Storage Specs
There are two variants in the Z3, namely the 16 GB and the 32 GB variants. However, both of these can be increased to a maximum of 128 GB using an SD card. On the other hand, the Z2A is available only in one variant of 16 GB, though this can also be increased to 128 GB with a memory card.
Comparing Cameras and Battery
In case of the Xperia Z2A, there is a primary camera at the back with a resolution of 20.7 MP. It also has a front VGA lens. The camera offers all features, such as panorama; HDR; Geo tagging; touch focus; face detection; autofocus; LED flash and so on. The Z3 also has a similar rear camera of 20.7 MP with a front camera of 2.2 MP. The camera on the Z3 also has all the regular photography features of HDR; Geo Tagging; LED flash and autofocus and so on. The Xperia Z3 comes with a more powerful battery of 3100 mAh, compared to the 3000 mAh of the Xperia Z2A.
Why the Z3 is Better
The Sony Xperia Z3 is smaller in volume with dimensions of 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm, compared to the Xperia Z2 dimensions of 137 x 72 x 11 mm. The Z3 also has more internal storage capacity and a higher CPU, so that the apps and games run faster on the Z3. The Z3 also has a bigger screen of 5.2 inches compared to the 5 inches of the Z2A. The Z3 is slimmer and has a better battery capacity that lasts up to a maximum of 890 hours compared to 700 hours for the Z2A. The battery of the Z3 also offers a higher talk time of around 14 hours compared to the 13 hours of the Z2A. The pixel density of the screen is higher in case of the Z3, offering sharper text as well as images and videos.
However, both the devices run on the latest version of Bluetooth 4.0. They have excellent cameras for taking pictures and capturing videos, with a flash for the camera, so that you can take good pictures even in a dark environment with the flash. Data transfer is of a high speed in both the devices, with both having LTE 150 Mbps capacities. Users can access several apps from the app market, the Google Play store in both these devices. Multi tasking features are offered in both the devices, so that users can run more than one app simultaneously, such as playing games, surfing or listening to music.
