Microsoft may be one of the top software companies in the world, but that did not stop them from entering into the world of Tablet PCs after seeing a significant growth.
Former Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer stated recently that the company was a little slow in entering into tablet PC segments. However, the company has been recording significant growth in the segment due to models like the Surface Pro 2. This is the premium version of the tablet offering from Microsoft, while the device is expected to be replaced by the Surface Pro 3 in the next few months.
Microsoft has tried to keep things simple by opting for just a couple of physical buttons on the device. All other aspects of the device are controlled by the touch screen, which is one of the largest in the segment at 10.6 inches. It is not expected to get a bump up in the upcoming Surface Pro 3 since it would reduce the portability of the device. Instead, Microsoft is planning to improve the features of this display.
This is one of the biggest selling points of the Surface Pro 2 since it comes equipped with an Intel processor. They are widely associated with the best performance machines. It is once again the case with the Surface Pro 2, as it comfortably runs the latest version of the Windows operating system without any problem. Microsoft devices will remain as the best possible way to get the ultimate Windows operating system user experience.
The device features an Intel Core i5 Processor from the 4th generation. The upcoming Surface Pro 3, though, is even expected to feature the top of the range i7 processor. This will make it even faster and excellent for high memory consuming applications.
Any device needs a lot of RAM in order to sufficiently support multitasking. And this is especially the case with the Surface Pro 2 with its incredibly powerful processor. Microsoft offers two different variants depending upon the RAM. These variants are further classified according to the presence of internal memory. Unlike some of the tablets that offer only up to 64 GB, Microsoft provides up to 512 GB of internal memory in the Surface Pro 2.
This is one area where the device cannot be expected significant improvements since the cost of memory will add to the overall cost of the device. However, the Surface Pro 3 may come with more RAM for the user. Currently, the maximum available is 8 GB if the user goes for the 256 GB internal memory option. If the 64 or 128 GB internal memory option is chosen, the user is provided with only 4 GB of RAM.
Microsoft claims that the battery life of the Surface Pro 2 will be around 7 to 15 days in idle state. It will also be capable of being fully charged within 2 to 4 hours.
The Surface Pro 2 starts at around $ 899, while the Surface Pro 3 will start at close to $ 1000.
