Microsoft came up with the Surface Pro 2 tablet in order to cater to the high-end tablet segment. The iPad dominates in this regard, but the Surface Pro 2 promises to offer much more than an entertainment device.
Apart from being a support a proper keyboard, the device also has several incentives that make it a worthy alternative to the iPad. After having come out in 2013, the Surface Pro 2 could be set for a replacement in the short period.
Microsoft is reportedly working on the Surface Pro 3 with several improvements in almost every area of the device.
Design Unlikely to Be Touched
Design is expected to be one of various features that will be carried over from the Surface Pro 2 since the no-frills design has already been liked by many. The device offers only a couple of physical buttons, but the presence of a proper operating system ensures that the need for more does not arise. The design is simple yet elegant. It also manages to bring about the high-quality nature of the device with its pleasing ethics.
One of the strong points of the iPad is its versatility to be able to offer something for user in every department. This is especially true in the case of memory where there are at least three options present. Microsoft has gone one better by providing the Surface Pro 2 with four internal memory options, although the amount of internal memory present depends on the RAM. For example, the 64 GB and 128 GB versions are available only with 4 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the 256 GB and 512 GB versions come with only 8 GB RAM.
This feature is unlikely to change in the coming Surface Pro 3, although Microsoft may decide to offer more RAM as standard.
The Surface Pro 2 came with a very powerful Intel i5 processor, while Microsoft updated the processor to the 1.9 GHz unit from the 4500 series in December 2013. New models of the Surface Pro 2 are shipped with this improved processor, but this is unlikely to stop Microsoft from offering the famed i7 processor in the upcoming Surface Pro 3. This is the stellar processor in the line-up of Intel and using this significantly boosts the new device in the performance takes. The current lineup of devices also uses the Intel HD graphics card, while the upcoming device is also set to retain the same philosophy.
The Surface Pro 2 comes with a 10.6 inch display with a stylus pen, but this display does not offer a lot of talking points in the device. It does its job brilliantly, but the lack of any standard feature means that the retina display of the iPad could still reign supreme. Right now, it comes with a full HD resolution and the ClearType technology only. The upcoming Surface Pro 3 is expected to provide 4K resolution, which would make the device the ultimate in entertainment as well.
The prices of Surface Pro 2 starts at $ 800, while the Surface Pro 3 will retail above $ 900.
