Sweet Revenge – Once Google Ditched LG, Koreans Make the G3 Screen

For a few years, LG and Google were working as partners.

The Korean company was selected to manufacture the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5. When everyone expected LG to make the Nexus 6, Google ditched the Koreans in favor of Motorola. Now, just several days after the announcement of the Nexus 6, LG produced the G3 Screen, a device that clearly rivals the Nexus 6. While the G3 Screen is initially aimed at the Korean market, it is more than certain that the company will ship it worldwide.

Design and Display

The G3 Screen has the same design as the original LG G3, which is one of the most beautiful phones at the moment. The difference is, the Screen has a larger display. Packing a 5.9 inches display, the latest handset comes with full HD display and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Dimensions of the handset are in a great range, considering the competition. The Screen measures at 158 x 82 x 9.5 and weighs 182 grams. By shortening the length and reducing the width of the handset compared to rival phablets, the G3 screen delivers easier grip and more comfort in the hand.

Hardware and Operating System

This is the area where LG has made the biggest innovation. The company has launched its first “homemade” chipset, which is the octa core NUCLUN chipset. The processor is composed by two quad core processors: the A15 quad core clocked at 1.5 GHz and the A7 quad core clocked at 1.2 GHz. The octa core processor should work more efficiently and save battery life. Other specs are pretty standard. The device comes with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB on board storage. However, users can add an additional 128 GB of memory space with the help of a microSD card. The G3 Screen runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box with LG’s UI on top of it.

While the sheer power of the camera might not be on par with other devices, the G3 screen has some tricks in the sleeve. The 13-MP sensor on the back comes with LED flash, optical image stabilization and LG’s own super fast laser auto focus system. On the front, the device packs a 2.1-MP camera.

The battery capacity of the G3 screen is set at 3000 mAh. However, the company believes that the battery should last more than the rival handsets, due to the lower resolution of the display.

There is no information regarding price at the moment. It is also unknown when the device will be available for worldwide purchase. What we do know is that the original G3 costs $599. The Screen should fall in the same price range, give or take $50.
