The world that we live in today is complex.

The technology that we use today has an intricate system of interdependent systems that we have come to rely on as a culture. When one system fails, others are quick to follow and as each domino topples the other, the human race comes one step closer to complete chaos. Such is the circumstance in which Tom Clancy’s ‘The Division’ leads you.

The Backdrop

Tom Clancy’s The Division is set amidst a completely crippled society, where chaos and devastation is rampant. Ravaged by a deadly pandemic, the city is but a ghost. All the basic services and systems have failed and people are without basic amenities such as food and water. The society is teetering on the verge of collapse and that is when a classified tactical unit, called ‘The Division’ enters to create some semblance of order. The agents of “The Division” are self-supporting and they have led the lives of ordinary citizens, snapping to attention in times like these when all chain of command has failed.

The Division

As society falls, The Division snaps into action and fights to prevent it from going into complete disarray. As they strive hard to create order and restore sanity, they find themselves in the midst of a pandemic created through a man-made virus – an epic conspiracy that threatens to take down the world. The virus, that has brought the society to the brink of destruction, is not the only looming threat, the people behind the man-made virus are even more dangerous and so the job of the unit is extremely terrifying. As they grapple with invisible enemies, trying to restore order, each member of the unit will have to go through some terrifying tribulations.

The Inspiration

Tom Clancy is known to be a fantastic action-adventure writer. This book and the game based on it have been inspired by real life events – Directive 51 and Operation Dark Winter. These events revealed to the world how fragile our order is, and how vulnerable we are – dependent on technology that is not always in our control. Our society has become too complex for us to handle.

Player Perspective

As a player, you would be part of the group called ‘The Division’, shortened from ‘Strategic Homeland Division’. This group was especially established to combat any threats that would threaten the very fabric of the society. This group has direct authority from the President of the United States, and is authorized to use any means required to save what remains of the world. This puts you, the player, in a massive multiplayer online universe, where you are pitted against computer controlled enemies that you have to destroy. In addition to this, you would also be combating other players in the game. These groups of players would try to stop you from achieving your objectives. The game offers excellent graphics, offering the best that every machine can use. Every platform that the game runs on – Xbox One, PS4 and PC, will have its own specifications because the game is built to address the strengths of each console individually.
