Since WhatsApp officially announced that they are bringing the Voice Calling feature to their application, the developers have been working day and night in order to make this service perform better.
Currently, the Voice Calling feature is not working as it should, as during the calls, the users reported that they’re either lagging or ending without any reason. In the latest WhatsApp 2.12.96 APK that just got released, the developers of WhatsApp have tried to bring some improvements to the application and they’ve also fixed a few bugs. We’re not sure if the Voice Calling feature is now working as it should, as the version just got released and we didn’t see any reports yet about it.

WhatsApp 2.12.96 APK: Download and Install on Android smartphone
WhatsApp 2.12.96 APK just got released, which means that it is currently in BETA. This version can currently be found on the official WhatsApp website (whatsapp.com). To download it, head to that website, tap on Download, select Android and finally tap on “Download Now” to start downloading the APK file on your Android smartphone.
Now, since you have the installation (APK) file on your Android smartphone, you will need to manually install it. This can’t be done until you enable Unknown Sources feature. This feature is allowing you to install “unofficial” APK files that you’ve downloaded from the internet and not from the Google Play Store. This option is found on Settings->Security, but in case you have an older version of Android, you will find it in Security->Applications. To enable it, you will need to check the box in front of the feature. Now, since you have Unknown Sources enabled, head to the location where you’ve saved WhatsApp 2.12.96 APK and install it on your Android smartphone.
When the installation is completed, you will need to get verified by using your mobile phone number and after you can start using the latest WhatsApp BETA version on your Android smartphone.
