WhatsApp is an application that is available for the major mobile operating systems: Symbian, Nokia S40, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and iOS. However, WhatsApp doesn’t have a desktop version.
The developers released the WhatsApp Web feature, which allows you to connect from your desktop PC via Firefox, Google Chrome or Opera, but the feature is quite limited, since you will need to leave the WhatsApp application open on your mobile device and the connection must remain active.
If you want to use a “full” WhatsApp version on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, then you’re in luck, as today we’re going to explain you all the steps that you need to take in order to use WhatsApp directly from your desktop device.
Using WhatsApp on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro
In order to install WhatsApp on one of these two devices, you will firstly have to download an Android emulator. Keep in mind that your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro will need to run on OSX 10.6 or later or the Android emulator will not work on it.
Once you’re sure that the device runs on OSX 10.6 or later, you will need to download and install the BlueStacks Android emulator on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. Once you download and install the BlueStacks Android emulator, you will need to open it and select the search button. Search for WhatsApp and after you find the application, install it on Bluestacks.
When the installation is complete, you will be able to use WhatsApp on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro via the BlueStacks emulator. However, keep in mind that you will still need a mobile phone number to get verified on WhatsApp. After inserting the phone number, the verification will fail and you will need to select “Call me”. Then, you will receive a call and a robot will tell you a code or you will get a text message containing the code.
When you get the code, head back to your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro and insert it on the WhatsApp application that runs on the BlueStacks Android emulator. Now, you will be able to start using the WhatsApp application on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro!
