WhatsApp is a phone application that allows users to send text messages, videos, MMS and songs at an interesting way. Since its first release in 2009, it has attracted a lot of users all over the world.

Majority of these users are the youths who always move together with the technology. The messenger traffic increases day by day as many new users join it every day. This increase is always increasing and has no sign of dropping.

One of the biggest question that the user keep asking themselves about WhatsApp is that “can It survive in the world of messengers”?

If you look at the current usage of the application, you will realize that it overweight the other messenger who even started earlier than it. The application is accompanied by many updates to make sure it remains strong in the world of messengers.

There are many other providers providing the same services but are receiving a tough competition from WhatsApp. The following represent the key competitors of WhatsApp messenger.

  • Line

This is one of the biggest competitors of whats app. It’s a messaging app that let the users send and receive a text message, videos, audios and images. You also have a chance of making phone calls over the internet or even video conference. The app’s format is available compatible to both the phones and computers. It is easier to use it on android, Blackberry, Nokia’s Asha and a Firefox Operation System. It has over 350 million users all over the world.

  • Kik Messenger

Kik is also a tough competitor of WhatsApp as it offers similar services. One can easily send tests over the smartphone’s internet connections thus getting rid of the expensive messaging charges. It also allows a direct sharing of browser consent. It was released in 2010, and its user’s population extended to a million in just 14 days. It is compatible with many phones too.

  • BBM

BMM is a BlackBerry Messaging that allows instant messaging. In 2013, the application was advanced to cater for the androids and iPhones too.

  • Viber

Viber resembles WhatsApp and mostly used for free voice calling and messaging. It also has many users all over the world.

Others include Skype and Google Hangouts. They offer similar service though not convenient for everyone like WhatsApp.

Why WhatsApp will take over and survive in the world of messaging

  • Simplicity

WhatsApp application is very simple to install and start using, its interface clear to accommodate all ages and different people of different education levels. For sure, you can’t take 20 minute showing a new user on how to use the application and start enjoying texting, photo and video sharing with friends all over the world.

  • No ads

Ads are known to cause stress to users of an application. Ads consume much internet connections too. As a result of not having the ads, WhatsApp is probably the cheapest means of communication. Other features like emotional pictures eases communication.

It is thus hard for any application to outdo the popular WhatsApp messenger but we’ll be keeping a close eye as this battle continues.
