Google Maps are really handy when you have to navigate to a new area or visit a location in your city.
The only catch is that you have to be constantly online but did you know there’s a simple method to save specific routes?
Network connection may not be available in every area and sometimes the signal could be really low. In such scenarios, you could make use of the save maps feature available within this service. There are two different methods; one is where you manually point the area. The other is where you can search for a location using the search bar and let the app find it for you using a network connection.
Saving Maps for Offline
The process of saving Google Maps for offline use is almost similar in both methods. Just navigate your pointer to the location manually and touch the search bar found on top. At the bottom of the search interface, you will find an option named save maps and use them offline. Click on it and it will automatically be saved to your local memory.
When you use the automatic search option, touch the bottom bar and open the menu interface. You can find this menu on the top corner, on the right side. Within this menu, you will find an option named save map for offline use. It will save the entire routes but will rather save the map as well as the surrounding areas. You will be able to cover local regions but not an entire state or city because that is too big to cover.
Your Places
For the convenience of users, Google Maps has an additional feature named your places. You can find it within the tab on the left hand side of the app. Click on it and you will be able to access all the offline areas that you have saved in the past. They come in handy, especially if you are a frequent visitor of the particular region but may or may not have network connectivity when you are there.
You can also update the area with new information, more coverage or simply delete it if you like to save space and have no plans to use it for a long time. These maps saved offline will automatically get deleted after 30 days. So, make sure you don’t rely on it for longer periods of time and keep alternatives ready.
