HTC and Asus are two of the first manufacturers to deliver new handsets for this year.
Both companies presented their middle class handset during CES 2015. Out of the two, making a decision is not an easy task, as both phones have their strengths and weaknesses. We break them down for you.
Design and Display
Even though the phones have the same display size, HTC’s device looks a bit more elegant and sleek. The Asus Zenfone 2 looks a bit more like a cube, while the design of the Desire 826 is sleek and stylish. As mentioned, both phones feature a 5.5 inches display, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Other dimensions are: 158 x 77 x 8mm for the Desire 826 and weight of 183 grams; 152 x 77 x 10.9mm with weight of 170 grams for the Zenfone 2.
Hardware and Operating System
Under the hood, the Desire 826 is powered by the Snapdragon 615, an octa core processors with two quad core processors of 1.7 GHz and 1GHz. The phone also boasts 2 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB internal storage. The Asus Zenfone 2 is also powered by a quad core processor, but from Intel and the clocking speed is set at 2.3 GHz and 1.7 GHz respectively. Internal memory includes 16, 32 and 64 GB version. The RAM memory is set at 2 GB for the 16 and 32 GB versions and at 4 GB for the 64 GB version.
Both devices run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, with respective skins on top of it. This is where HTC’s advantage comes to play, as the Sense UI is probably one of the best looking skins in the Android world.
Camera
Both devices use a 13-MP sensor for the rear camera, but the Zenfone 2 has the advantage of featuring dual LED flash. This allows Asus’s phone to take better pictures during low light conditions. However, on the front, the 5-MP shooter of the Zenfone 2 is no match for the 4-MP ultrapixel shooter of the Desire 826.
Battery
The Zenfone 2 is the option that provides more battery time, thanks to a massive 3000 mAh battery inside of it. The Desire 826 comes with a 2600 mAh battery.
Price
The price segment is where Asus has the advantage. The company sells the 32 GB version of the Zenfone 2 for $250, while the price for the 32 GB version of the Desire 826 is $350.
