The South Korean manufacturer unveiled the new LG G4, which is a major upgrade over the previous LG G3, but it kept the same screen size and resolution. In this article, we’ll make a specific rundown between the two devices, highlighting the differences in terms of hardware and camera.
Designs
The LG G3 features a floating Arc design, with a brushed metallic appearance, a thickness of 8.9mm, a weight of 149grams and the volume and power buttons were moved to the back, below the rear camera, drawing criticism from the fans. The LG G4 has the same Floating Arc design, but its display has a slight curvature as the one from the based G Flex 2, and the back cover comes in six color options and two variants of patters models: diamond and full grain leather with stitches in the middle, vertically. The device has a thickness of 9.8mm and a weight of 155grams.
Displays
Both phones have a 5.5inches IPS screen with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and a pixel density of 538ppi. The LG G3 was the first smartphone with a 2K display, while the LG G4 is the first QHD-based phone, being 25 percent brighter and having 20 percent more colors.
Hardware
In 2014, many flagships came with identical hardware configuration and the LG G3 was no exception. The company equipped it with a 32bit Qualcomm MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801 chipset powered by a quad core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, which was paired with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB or 3GB of RAM for the internal memory options of 16GB and 32GB, respectively, which supported expansion up to 128GB. LG took a big step with the G4, which is the first smartphone that benefits from Qualcomm’s 64bit hexa-core chipset Snapdragon 808 which consists of a dual core ARM Cortex A57 CPU and a quad core A53 CPU, backed by 3GB of RAM and supporting 32GB of internal memory, also expandable up to 128GB, while the graphics are provided by Adreno 418 with support for 3D gaming.
Cameras and Batteries
The LG G3 has a 13MP camera on the back with dual-LED flash, optical image stabilization, phase detection/laser autofocus, 1/3” sensor size, simultaneous video and image recording, HDR, 2160p@30fps video capture, and the front camera is 2.1MP. The LG G4 has a slightly advanced back shooter of 16MP with wide F1.8 aperture lens, allowing 80 percent more light to reach the sensor, and the optical image sensor is 2.0, for less blurred photos. The front camera features a resolution of 8MP.
The battery remained the same on the LG G4, having a capacity of 3000mAh.
