Four months after the release of the Galaxy S5, which “shocked” the fans positively thanks to its incredible features and advanced hardware, the tech giant made a new move and prepared the S5 Active. The device will be announced next week, on June 12, in a press conference.
Displays and sizes
If you got used to Galaxy S5’s large screen, a Super AMOLED display with the size of 5.5 inches, which can support a resolution of 1,080×1,920pixels and a pixel density of 432ppi, then you will have to imagine these features on a 5.1inch display, which is the Galaxy S5 Active’s screen.
The Galaxy S5 is thinner, having a thickness of 0.32 inches, and also lighter, weighting 145grams, although it has a larger display. The S5 Active is weighting 170grams – because of its external protection, which makes it thicker, measuring 0.35 inches. Both of the models are dust-water resistant, but the S5 Active was created to be resistant to shock, also.
Hardware and OS
These “siblings” have the same 2.5GHz quad-core Krait 400 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) processor, and 16GB internal memory, expandable by up to 128 GB, but the Galaxy S5 has another option for 32GB. Both devices (Androids) use Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and run on the 4.4.2 KitKat version with no less than 2GB of RAM.
Cameras
You won’t believe your eyes when you’ll see the accurateness of the photos taken with both phones’ cameras. They come with 16MP rear facing cameras, with LED flash, that shoot in 4K, and 2MP secondary cameras.
Batteries
There’s no difference between both of the phones’ batteries. They have a capacity of 2800mAh, but on the S5 you can talk 21 hours, or you can talk 29 hours on the S5 Active.
Misc
Other things that are worth mentioning: the S5 has a fingerprint sensor, which isn’t found on the S5 Active. The last one has a “convenience key” that once it is pressed, the Active Zone app is activated and you’ll be able to access apps such as barometer, flashlight, stopwatch or compass. The S5 has only a Home key and Back&Task Switcher keys. Another thing that both phones have in common- the fact that they both support NFC.
Prices
614 dollars is the price of the Galaxy S5. The S5 Active costs 200 dollars with a 2 years-contract through AT&T.
