If you just updated your device to the Android Lollipop, then you probably noticed that even if the new OS brings a lot of new features, it also comes with some errors and other problems. However, some of these problems can be solved until a new Android version will be released, which will most likely fix most of these issues.
Wiping Cache Partition
In case you’ve noticed a decrease in performance since you updated your device to Android 5.0 or Android 5.0.1, then a simple wipe of the cache might fix this issue. To do this, you will have to shut down your device and boot it in recovery mode. To do this, you will have to turn on your device by using Power + Volume buttons at the same time and once you see the recovery menu, you can release them. In order to navigate in the menu you will use the volume buttons and to select an option, you’ll press the Power button. Search for Wipe Cache Partition option and select it, with the power button as we told you below. This will take up to 10-15minutes, so find something else to do in between. Once it is completed, restart your device once again and see if your problem has been fixed.
Turn off some features
This is not a fix, but more like a workaround, until Google will release an update that it will fix the performance problems that are found when having some features enabled. You should turn off (when not using them) features such as Display rotation, Wi-Fi, Google Now, NFC, DayDream, Bluetooth and Cloud Printing. It is good to disable a feature and keep checking if your device is moving faster or still lagging, until you see which feature slows your device down.
If somehow disabling the Bluetooth feature solves your performance problems, then you should fix this problem by going to Settings->Applications->Bluetooth Share application and clear the cache and data. In case by disabling Wi-Fi you’ll notice some performance problems fixed, then you should go to Settings->Wi-Fi and tap and hold on the Wi-Fi network and then select forget network. After that, search again for the network and connect back to it, and your performance problems might be fixed.
Battery problems
The most common problem that is found on most of the devices that run the Android Lollipop on their device is the drain battery issue. It seems that the device’s battery is getting wasted faster than before. Just try checking which applications are using the device’s battery by going to Settings->Battery.
Some users found out that by doing a factory reset to their device will fix this issue, so you should try that out also. To do a factory reset you will have to enter in recovery mode (see wiping cache partition section on how to do to enter recovery mode), and then reach wipe data/factory reset by using volume buttons and use the power button to select it. After that, you’ll have to select “Yes – erase all user data” and start the factory reset procedure.
Random crashes
In case your device is randomly crashing or lagging from time to time, than you should know that there are many reasons why it does that. Once again, users have reported that by doing a factory reset, they’ve solved this issue.
Video playback
The Wi-Fi version of Nexus 7 (2013 variant) seems to have some issues when trying to play videos. It seems that Android Lollipop is unable to find the video player software when you will want to open a video file. Clearing the cache of the affected application might fix this problem, so in case you have issues regarding playing videos on YouTube, you should clear that application cache and see if it works after that.
Other users have fixed this problem by disabling or enabling the NuPlayer from the Developer options page. It seems that this is an experimental player that has been introduced with Lollipop. In order to get to the Developer options page you will have to go to Settings->About Phone and tap the build number 7 times until you will activate the developer option screen. Try disabling and enabling the NuPlayer and see if that fixes your problem.
Android Lollipop comes with great features, but until all the major problems will get fixed it might take a few more weeks, so keep in mind that when you upgrade to Android Lollipop, you will most likely face some problems with it.
