As it is, iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge are two of the best large-screen smartphones in the current market.
Baptized phablets, these large screen smartphones have risen in recent popularity thanks to the amazing display they offer users as far as playing games, watching movies as well as browsing the web is concerned. Many young adults have taken this direction and are donning these large screen smartphones, which have come in to threaten the existence of small-sized tablets.
Samsung and Apple are two leading producers of premium products and they have encountered each other on several other occasions, when it comes to the supremacy in the gadgetry world. Apple had a philosophy of promoting medium-sized smartphones, claiming that large screen phones were unbearable. But this seems to have been the late Steve Jobs’ philosophy and things are changing quite alarmingly at Apple, since his departure.
iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note Edge both come with some exceptional features and specs. Both have large screens, very powerful internal specs and by no doubt, they are definitely worth their cost. Here is a quick look at how these two devices line up against each other.
iPhone 6 Plus specs and features
The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s largest smartphone and this is due to the fact that it has a screen size of 5.5 inches and it’s equipped with the Retina HD technology. The screen resolution of this device stands at 1920 by 1080 pixels and it has an impressive pixel density of 401 pixels per inch.
The iPhone 6 Plus comes in three variants; where you can get the 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants. As usual, the iPhone does not include an extension slot for an SD card. On the rear, you’ll come across an 8MP camera while on the front; this Apple device has a camera of 1.2 MP.
The smartphone runs on the latest iOS 8.1.1 and it’s equipped with an A8 processor, an M8 co-processor and a RAM of 1 GB. You can buy this phone from AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint for just $299, but under a 2 year contract.
Samsung Galaxy Note Edge specs and features
Unlike Apple, Samsung is not a new player when talking of phablets and the Galaxy Note Edge is just another addition to the huge collection of phablets this Korean tech giant boasts.
Even though the Galaxy Note Edge is a bit larger in size, the two phablets have almost similar specs and features. The Note Edge has a screen size of 5.6 inches and it comes with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and a more than impressive pixel density of 524 pixels per inch. The Galaxy Note Edge also features a curved QHD display.
Unlike the iPhone 6 Plus which comes in a number of variants, the Galaxy Note Edge has a single version which is equipped with an internal memory of 32 GB and it can be expanded to 128 GB using an SD card. The camera segment is where the Samsung device beats the Apple smartphone, where it has a rear camera that is twice that of iPhone 6 Plus, standing at 16MP and a front-facing camera of 3.7MP, which is not bad for selfies when compared to the 1.2MP you get on the iPhone.
The Note Edge is less powerful with its Snapdragon 805 chipset by Qualcomm and it also operates on the older Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which can be upgraded to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. You can buy the Galaxy Note Edge from T-Mobile, AT&T, or Sprint from around $399.
