Asus brought its Zenfone 2 smartphone at the CES 2015 event and shortly after that, the company released it in its own country, Taiwan, the in China, and now it’s expected to hit the shelves in Malaysia, India and the US, while Europe had priority, because all three variants can now be purchased in France.
Asus released the Zenfone 2 in three variants: ZE500CL, ZE550ML and ZE551ML and each one corresponding to a different configuration and price range. But let’s start with the first one, the ZE500CL model, which is the cheapest (193 dollars) and which is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor, backed by 2GB of RAM and coupled with an internal memory of 16GB, expandable up to 64GB. Its display measures 5inches (IPS) supporting 720x1280pixels at 294ppi, and its cameras have resolutions of 8MP and 2Mp, respectively. The device is kept alive by a 2500mAh non-removable battery, but it’s too early to specify how many hours it lasts when talking on 3G.
The Zenfone 2 ZE550ML costs 268 dollars and it’s a bigger variant with a 5.5inches screen that supports the same resolution, but has a lower pixel density at 267ppi. Internally, it hides a quad-core Atom ZE550ML processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, expandable up to the same capacity, but it supports two SIM cards and the cameras are more advanced: 13MP on the back and 5MP on the front. Since the device is much bigger, it needed a larger battery whose capacity is 3000mAh.
The Zenfone ZE551ML is the model with two variants of processors and RAM capacities and supports 1080×1920 pixels at 403ppi on its 5.5inches screen. Speaking of processors, one is quad core Intel Atom Z3580 clocked at 2.3GHz and coupled with 4GB of RAM, while the other is quad core Intel Atom Z3560 clocked at 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM. It has the same cameras and battery as the ZE550ML, and the cheaper variant costs 323 dollars.
All three variants of the Zenfone 2 run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and have the same design – brushed metal back panel with the power and volume buttons placed below the rear camera, while below the screen was placed a metallic band. Asus copied LG’s LG 3 device, but it opted for a rectangular body instead of floating Arc.
