The latest Apple flagships are the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
These two devices are of great quality and they come preinstalled with the latest iOS 8.
This new iOS 8 is identical to the operating system that is installed on older versions of iPhones namely iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. However, not everything is the same on these old and new devices and even a look at the two generations of iPhones can tell a lot. Apple was previously adamant with its 4-inch display screen on earlier iPhones. However, this seems to have been the philosophy of the latest Steve Jobs.
The latest iOS 8 can be installed on quite a number of older iPhones and among them are the iPhone 5S and 5C. While you might access lots of similar features on both the old and newer phones, there are three features that can only be enjoyed by users of the large screen-size iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. So if you own one of these two devices, you might find these three tricks very essential for you to enjoy the use of these powerful devices from Apple.
Zooming display
The iPhone 6 has a screen size of 4.7 inches while the iPhone 6 Plus comes with a screen size of 5.5 inches. When compared to the previous 4 inches of display available on iPhone 5 models and below, these are massive display sizes for Apple users. Thanks to the Display Zoom feature, you can take great advantage of these large screens to get the most out of these devices. One way to do this is to zoom it to display more content on the screen and the second way is to zoom it to make the content larger.
This means that if you have any problem with your eyesight, you can use this feature to enlarge the content being viewed for easy reading. For both devices, you will have to choose the type of zoom you want – either standard or zoomed. However, the following steps will help you change to any of your preferred selection:
- Open settings
- Tap on display and brightness settings
- Select Display Zoom
- Tap on Standard or Zoomed to see a preview of each selection and swipe from side to side so as to have a clear idea of each option’s view
- Select your option and tap Set.
Reachability
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus might be very amazing devices thanks to their large screen sizes. However, this large display size comes at a cost. Handling this device might be a huge problem, especially using one hand. Older iPhones had no issue when it comes to using with one hand. It was easier to reach every aspect of your phone including the furthest icons using your thumb. While this might somehow be possible with the iPhone 6, it is not that easy with the iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple was aware of this and as a result, there is a feature that can help out with this reachability issue. The reachability feature appears at the top of the screen towards the middle so that reaching it is much easier. Follow these steps to use the Reachability feature on your iPhone 6 Plus whenever you find anything is unreachable.
- Double tap on the home button (don’t press it) to move down the content of the screen
- Tap on the item you want and the screen will revert to normal
- Double tap on the home button to access the Reachability feature again.
Landscape layout
The landscape layout has been present on iPhones since this device made its debut about a decade ago. While this layout has been very useful for many apps, it has never appeared on the homescreen. This has been changed in the iPhone 6 Plus and the change can be attributed to the large screen that the device comes with.
It’s simple, just turn your iPhone 6 Plus and you’ll see the screen become wider. All the icons will also orient themselves to match the orientation of the screen. However, this landscape layout is only available in the iPhone 6 Plus model and not the iPhone 6.
