The fans have been waiting for the second season of the Dragon Ball Super anime for more than five years. Instead, they’ll get an entirely new series based on the legendary Dragon Ball franchise, and it will have its debut next year.
The most logical continuation of the Dragon Ball Super series would have been the implementation of the official manga’s new chapters. They’ve continued the story long after the Tournament of Power, adding new villains and transformations. Moro, Gas, and Ultra Ego Vegeta are the most important new additions to the manga.
Instead, ‘Dragon Ball: Daima’ will launch, and the plot is already controversial: Goku will be transformed into a kid again, similarly to how the story of Dragon Ball GT progressed. Furthermore, Akira Toriyama will raise the stakes even more at this point by turning the whole Z gang into kids: Vegeta, Piccolo, Master Roshi, and so on.
‘Dragon Ball: Daima’ launches in the fall of 2024
Dragon Ball fans will have plenty to wait until the launch of the ‘Dragon Ball: Daima’ series, as it’s scheduled for the fall of next year. Although there’s still a lot more to learn about the plot, there’s still plenty of information available. For instance, the animation looks far better than how it overall was in Dragon Ball Super, as there seems to be a new technology to blame. An evil entity will transform Goku & co into kids, which means that they will likely have to fight to recover their initial forms.
Judging by the trailer, we can hope for “a story never before told in Dragon Ball.” Surely, that would be nice for the fans, as Dragon Ball is notorious for constantly bringing back plots and elements of the past. For instance, they’ve brought back the Red Ribbon Army and Cell for last year’s ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ movie. They brought back Broly for the 2018 title ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly.’ They brought back Frieza for the Resurrection F movie, and the examples could continue.
2024 is Dragon Ball’s 40-year anniversary
1984 is the year when Dragon Ball debuted as a story that follows the adventures of a little and strong boy named Son Goku. Later on, the story progressed in various ways, leading to several movies, five anime installments (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and Super Dragon Ball Heroes), and lots of manga chapters. Goku was initially introduced as a boy who was kind-hearted and eager to save anyone from danger. He had a tail, which gave him the possibility to transform into a Great Ape at night when there was a full Moon.
Later on in the Dragon Ball Z series, Goku found out about his true origins: he was an alien, a Saiyan, to be more precise. He was sent to Earth to destroy it and its inhabitants long ago when he was just a baby. Even at such a fragile age, Goku was a rascal, causing a lot of trouble to Gohan, the man who adopted him. But a bump received on the head caused Goku to become the good person that everyone knows.
Akira Toriyama also stated a few months ago that he has several Dragon Ball projects under consideration, which means that we could also expect to hear about a new movie coming soon. It’s been just a year since the latest one, which was known as ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero,’ but others might also come.
