There is no doubt that this year’s Apple WWDC was a success, with most of the rumored and teased features being revealed during this event.
However, there were others that were still not availed in this event.
Just in case you missed this event, here is a brief summation of what went down during the 2015 WWDC in San Francisco.
OS X 10.11 El Capitan
Apple will soon be launching a new version of Mac OS X 10.11 which is codenamed El Capitan. This OS will not be released in full, until this fall, but the users of iPhones and iPads who are willing to get a taste of the beta version can get the OS from the official website.
El Capitan comes in with a bunch of improvements and some new features as well. Among the most notable additions are new gestures such as shaking to enlarge the cursor as well as a brand new way in which the websites can be pinned on Safari. There is a new speaker icon on the browser, which will help mute any form of music that may come from an open tab.
Spotlight is even getting better in terms of the context. Rather than look for names of files, it will now be possible to use the descriptions of what you want and you will get the most precise results. If you have noticed with the current iPads, it is not possible to multitask in split windows. But this feature is coming soon on Mac OS X 10.11.
iOS 9
There are no many new features to boast about in this new iOS 9. However, Apple has really stepped up the game when compared to the performance and intelligence of iOS 8. It will now be more contextual with Siri as the users can ask it to remind them about something that is currently being displayed on a page. Siri will also be able to tell you who is calling you just in case you receive a phone call from a number that is not in your phonebook.
There are also some improvements that are headed to this iOS 9 platform and they include areas like Maps and Notes, with the former getting transit information updates while the latter has been fixed with indexing links. There is also a new News app that will help the users of iOS 9 personalize their news content and get the latest updates every time they are available. The iPad will also be getting new gestures such as the use of two fingers to ensure that dragging the text on the screen is eased and multi-window support to allow scrolling on multiple screens at a time.
Apple Pay
According to Apple, Apple Pay will be getting a new reader that will enable this service to work on a variety of entities. This application is one of the best, when it comes to making mobile payments and when the iOS 9 is launched, it is expected that the service will get more improvements and stability.
Swift 2.0 and other developer kits
The users of iOS 9 will also be at hand to enjoy a new version of Swift 2.0 which is expected to be open source. There will be available compilers on both Mac OS X and Linux. The WWDC 2015 also revealed that Apple developer kits will be getting updates and new support. Some of the highlighted additions include reproductive health support on the HealthKit, inclusion of more gaming development kits as well as integration of carbon monoxide alarms on the HomeKit.
Other apps that Apple unveiled during this event were the new Apple Music app for streaming music to your devices as well as a new watchOS 2 for the Apple Watch, which will come with improvements and new capabilities for this wrist watch.
At the moment, these applications are still in beta and many of them will be available when the next iOS 8.4 is released somewhere in July. However, we expect a full list to be available when the stable version of the iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan are launched this fall.
