Five months into 2015, we already have three of the top five flagships expected for release this year.
The LG G4, the HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 lead the charge as android flagships will be in the top spot during the course of the year. One of the aspects that people look for when choosing a device, is its performance. And when it comes to these three, all have different processors, which lead to different results. According to some of the first benchmark results, the S6 is arguably the best out of the three.
Chipset Comparison
Before we delve into the benchmark and performance comparison, we need to explain the chipset and the processing power of each of the three devices. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is powered by Samsung’s own chipset, the Exynos 7420. The chipset contains four A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and the four A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. The HTC One M9 is powered by the Snapdragon 810, a chipset that was rumored to have heating issues. The octa core chipset contains four A57 cores that can go up to 2 GHz and four A53 cores that can go up to 1.5 GHz. The LG G4 boasts a six core chipset, the Snapdragon 808. There were rumors that LG chose the Snapdragon 808 due to the heating issues of the 810 version, but LG was quick to dismiss those. The chipset contains four A53 cores clocked at maximum speed of 1.44 GHz and two cores with maximum clocking speed of 1.8 GHz.
Core Comparison
In the single core comparison, the Galaxy S6 scored the best result with 1,485. Surprisingly, the G4 performed better than the HTC One M9 in the single core GeekBench test, posting a score of 1,134. The One M9 scored the lowest result at 838. In the multi core comparison, the S6 was way ahead of the competition with a score of 5,282. The G4 and the M9 were close to each other, with the G4 scoring 3,501 and the One M9 posting a result of 3,677. It is important to note that most of the time, for normal usage, you are actually using a single core. Multi core usage is activated once you start playing 3D games, or during multitasking.
AnTuTU Test
The AnTuTu Benchmark test is very accurate reflection of how a device performs in the real world. And in the AnTuTu test, the S6 was again the superior device. The Galaxy S6 posted a score of 67,520, way ahead of the HTC One M9 and its Snapdragon 810. HTC’s device posted a score of 52,709. The LG G4 is the weakest result of the three, posting score of 47,759.
