One of the most used and popular messaging applications in the world has reached 800 million users in April this year.
We are talking about WhatsApp, a messaging app used for sharing approximately 700 million photos and 100 million videos for day, as well as communicating via more than 10 billion messages in one day. With growth rate this high, WhatsApp could count over 1 billion active users before the end of this year. We were all anxiously waiting for WhatsApp to include the voice calling feature to its services, but the company has the practice to reveal updates and new features very slowly and tactically.
Long Awaited WhatsApp Feature
The WhatsApp creators Koum and Acton introduced the voice calling service slowly and methodically, since they were intent on providing quality and reliable calling feature to WhatsApp users. Moreover, the company’s people state that it is much easier to do messaging than voice, so that is another reason why it took so long to introduce the voice calling feature in WhatsApp’s services. Jan Koum-the WhatsApp’s cofounder claimed that the call feature was to be released during the second half of 2014, but it became available and ready to use just recently. It seems that even though most of us already use Skype, Apple’s FaceTime or Viber for free voice calls, WhatsApp’s calling feature is the most popular and anticipated, probably because it is the messaging app with the most active users.
The WhatsApp’s Voice Calling Feature Introduction
Two months ago, in February this year, WhatsApp finally introduced voice calling feature to its services. Initially, this basic way of communicating was accessible to just a small number of people using WhatsApp. Shortly after this, you could get invitation from WhatsApp users owning voice calling feature to use it yourself. Nevertheless, anyone owning an Android phone is now allowed to have and use this amazing feature on their WhatsApp. Make sure to download the latest WhatsApp app version so you can get all the updates and improvements of the voice calling feature on your Android phone.
Start Using Your WhatsApp Voice Calling Service
The new WhatsApp interface now features three tabs-one for chat, another for contacts, and finally the third one for calls. The small call icon on the interface of your WhatsApp app will enable you to make voice calls to your contacts. Of course, your WhatsApp contacts can call you, and you can select between declining the incoming call by pressing and sliding the red button and answering the call by pressing and sliding the green button. Also, WhatsApp enables you to send an instant message with the little message icon placed on the call screen and in this way decline the incoming WhatsApp call. Within the Calls tab on your WhatsApp interface you have the info on all your calls on WhatsApp, including incoming calls, missed calls and outgoing calls. Besides this, there is also the possibility to mute your call or to switch to speakerphone, and also to see the duration of all your calls, all within the WhatsApp’s calling service. You might also appreciate the information that you won’t be able to approach the emergency service numbers as, for example 911, with the WhatsApp calling service.
