In 2024, when the majority of people want the latest and the greatest hardware and software gimmicks, why not go a bit retro and opt for some old stuff? If something is new, that doesn’t automatically mean that it’s better in terms of sheer quality.
Windows 11 is the latest operating system gimmick in town, and Microsoft is preparing to release its successor this year. It will most probably be known simply as Windows 12, and of course, we can wait for other iterations in the future as well. Here’s a fact: old operating systems from Microsoft and other tech companies were significantly less intrusive than the new ones, which is why some people still prefer to cling to Windows 7 or Windows 8.
While Windows 7 is still considered by many the best operating system ever made by Microsoft, we can’t say the same about Windows 8. The 12-year-old operating system has been received pretty badly by Microsoft users, but it can still represent a good choice for a computer nowadays for some good reasons:
Resource efficiency:
Microsoft designed Windows 8 with resource efficiency in mind. In other words, this operating system won’t take a toll on your hardware’s capabilities once you install it. Compared to its successors, Windows 8 requires fewer system resources, which means that older or less powerful hardware can benefit a lot. This means that if you have an old laptop or desktop PC, it can be a good idea to opt for Windows 8 instead of Windows 11, for instance.
Touchscreen optimization:
Touchscreen devices are nothing new in 2024, but guess what? Not all PC operating systems were designed for them. Windows 8 is one of those operating systems designed with touchscreens in mind, as the interface is optimized for touch-enabled devices. Such an approach is perfect for users who have 2-in-1 laptops or tablets, as Windows 8 can allow them to communicate with their devices efficiently.
Familiarity for Windows 7 users:
If you’re used to what Windows 7 can do, as many of us are, it means that you might like Windows 8 just for that reason. Windows 8 offers a familiar environment that allows for a seamless transition for users who are accustomed to Windows 7.
Although the Start screen of Windows 8 has represented something totally new for its time, it can still be customized to resemble the usual Start menu. In this way, many of those who are nostalgic about the legendary Windows 7 operating system will benefit.
It’s true that Windows 8 is far from being the latest and shiniest operating system out there, but still, it offers a stable and resource-efficient computing environment. Those people who appreciate familiarity and efficient performance on older hardware instead of the advantages that an operating system like Windows 11 has to offer can surely rely on the capabilities of Windows 8. Microsoft is known for adding a lot of emphasis on its operating systems, and Windows 8 can still represent a good solution in 2024 for some people, even though it lacks the powerful qualities of its successor operating systems.
