The Roku fans are waiting anxiously for the new generation set top box to be released, which is supposed to happen later this year, but the date hasn’t been set yet. However, the company is lowering the price of the current product, the Roku 3, which suggests that a new successor will take its place soon.
The Roku 3 is a small quadratic black thing that is used to stream media from a computer to a TV or over the internet. There are many people who bought this set top box to watch videos stored on their computers, on their TVs, or to stream channels such as Netflix. In this moment, the Roku 3 costs 76 dollars on Amazon, after its prices was lowered by 23 dollars. 99 dollars wasn’t really a high price, as many fans ignore the costs of the Roku 3 and still bought it, and the small price reduction wasn’t such a big deal. The realistic supposition is pointing out to a future release of a new product, which is Roku 4, and it was about time for the new gadget to show up, because its predecessor is almost two years old and the fans want a streaming box that can handle 4K video.
The Roku 3 supports 1080p and the new technology demands more powerful and evolved devices and since the company is working with Netflix and the developers already made it clear that the channel will start streaming in 4K on Roku’s upcoming box, this project might see the sunlight earlier than predicted. 4K will be four times the resolution of 1080p and will need bigger bandwidth and processing power.
The Roku 3 supports 802.11 dual-band (a/b/g/n compatible) with WEP, WPA, and WPA2 support 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, it’s powered by BCM11130 900 MHz processor backed by 512MB of RAM and has an internal memory of 256MB.
Roku 4 will be upgraded and may have wireless antennae, which will improve signal strength, being of benefit to those who have their router in another room, not the one where it’s the TV.
