Samsung Gets it Right This Time
The Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are both flagship phones from the Korean giant and are competitors to the iPhone 6. Even by merely looking at the two phones you can view the striking resemblance to the iPhone 6. For years, users have been complaining about the cheap plastic look. Samsung seems to have given this serious thought and has replaced the leather back with glass and metal, making the two devices look and feel more premium and also more durable. The two new phones will also have Samsung Pay included in them. This marks Samsung’s entry in the payments arena and is a direct competition to Apple Pay. Of the two devices, the Galaxy S6 will be slightly cheaper than the S6 Edge.
Display
Both the phones come with a screen of 5.1 inches 2K, in a quad HD, Super AMOLED display with a whopping resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. This offers a pixel density of 572 ppi.
Camera Bumped Up
Both the phones also have the same rear camera rating of 16 MP resolution and a front camera of 5 MP. The lens is faster than those in previous models, with an f/1.9 lens, though the sensor is the same 16 MP. It can capture more light and take better pictures even in low light conditions. It makes use of the same lens for the front camera as well.
Hardware and Software
Both the phones also offer equally good performances, with the 14 nm octa core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Both the phones have improved upon the Qualcomm efficiency by manufacturing their own SoC, 14 nm, making the phones increase their energy efficiency.
Both the devices come with 3 GB of RAM. The S6 and the S6 Edge are offered in three different sizes. The two phones will be available in three variants each of 32 GB, 64 GB and in 128 GB.
The Difference – The Edge
The S6 comes in a flat screen style, which is more conventional. On the other hand, the S6 Edge is the premium device and has a display wrapping on the sides to offer a bezel free appearance. The S6 Edge comes with a refreshing display design of dual edge, but all the other features of the two devices are the same. In case of the S6 Edge, the edges have some excellent features, such as lighting up when someone calls you or allowing users to assign a specific color for a specific caller and so on. The sides have also been used for accommodating notifications along with some shortcuts. The user interface is more customized and the battery is bigger on the Edge model; so naturally you will have to pay a little more.
Release
The release of the S6 has been slated for April 10th 2015, with pre orders opening on 20th March. As for the S6 Edge, the availability is slated for a little later on 24th April and it will be initially available in the 64 GB version. The S6 will be available in black and gold as well as white and blue and in green. The devices will also come with a range of accessories, such as the wireless charging pads. The devices can be used on EE’s 4G+, so it can offer a high speed of a maximum of 250 Mbps.
Verdict
Samsung seems to have taken a great leap in design when considering these two latest models. The devices are no longer just the plastic ones of before, but afford a metal and glass, sophisticated appearance.
