The Sims 4 was released in a stripped down state with many of the popular features that were present in previous installments of the franchise completely removed. According to some media outlets EA is running surveys to collect data regarding future expansions and The Sims 4: Pets could be the next one.
Bringing Back The Pokemon-Like Expansion?
Back in the day EA published the Pets expansion for The Sims 3 which proved to be a big hit. Every fan of the game purchased the expansion pack which according to some it was the best one. Gameplay-wise the expansion brought some new and interesting mechanics. Owners could control the animals and even play as the pet. This interesting feature raised the level of interaction between the player and his beloved companion.
To make things more interesting the developers included a trait system that would dictate the behavior of the pet. Also the could be trained to gain additional skills which added many more hours of gameplay but to ensure that there is replay value the devs enabled the players to own six different pets.
Multiple new interactions were added and to keep things interesting the players could customize their pet’s appearance. Also there were plenty of different animals to choose from which made the expansion even more interesting. Players could experiment and train brave kittens or hydrophobic dogs.
However as much as some players would like it there were no pet battles which is typical for a Pokemon game. Players did not have the ability to capture other pets for their collection but the expansion was still fun to play.
Will Sims 4 Get The Pet Expansion?
It seems that the data collected by EA from those surveys hint that the next expansion will be The Sims 4: Pets. If it will not be the next one it will surely be planned for some time in the near future. What everyone should expect is even more features than the expansion for The Sims 3. It is possible to see some sort of game system in which players could capture pets or collect them. Also the limitation to six pets might be removed especially if there will be even more pets in the game.
A feature that everyone would love is to get more customization options when creating their pets. This could give everyone the freedom to maybe recreate their real pet or why not even popular Pokemon characters.
As of now there hasn’t been any release date disclosed even if there is great hype around such an expansion. The community has high expectations from such an expansion mainly because The Sims 3: Pets set high standards in terms of the quality of game addons. There is still great uncertainty regarding how the expansion pack for Sims 4 will be better.
The good news is that the survey hinted that there will be around 12 to 16 expansions for The Sims 4 which almost guarantees that there will be a pet pack. When that will happen is just a matter of time and it depends on how EA is planning the production and development.
