Naughty Dog would love to see Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End run at full 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution on the Playstation 4 platform but will the hardware be able to handle it at all.
That’s the big question that now lies ahead of the developers at the game design company who are really busy working on the biggest game of the year. Whether they want it or not, the game has gained ample attention.
Now, the cover story done by Edge magazine has hyped the title even further but it also reveals a lot of in-depth details about the upcoming game. The game developers and designers had some detailed conversation with the publication to share their views about the new Playstation 4 hardware as well as the game itself.
Balancing FPS and Graphics Quality
For every developer, be it on console or PC, the confusion between delivering the best FPS and balancing the right amount of visual fidelity is a challenge one. Naughty Dog’s game director Bruce Straley confirmed the same adding that they are planning to push the game to 60 FPS but they would never Playstation 4 to the core that might spoil the gameplay experience.
“The demo we showed during the Playstation experience event was locked at 30 fps because we couldn’t risk much during the first reveal. However, in testing the game in the studio, we could confirm that it delivers more frame rate than expected which gives us space to extend it further,” he added.
Making tough decisions
Speaking to the magazine, Straley said, “As it was a demo for Uncharted 4 – A Thief’s End, we locked it at 30 fps during the event. Our team is now pushing the limits of the title because our goal is to make sure we make the game that we had always dreamt off. But, at the same time, if we find that 60 FPS might hinder the overall experience, for a player, we will compromise in this part and simply settle down to make the game worthy of the time and money spent.”
Playstation 3 was powerful for its time but all Uncharted games ran only at 30 fps. This is something found with most console games but the time has come to push it further for best results and Uncharted 4 on next gen Playstation 4 seems like a good choice. Can they do it?
