WhatsApp is the application of the moment, being used by over 700 million people who installed it on their smartphones to send text messages, multimedia files and benefit from the other features. After introducing the Voice Calling feature in February for the Android users, the developers released updates pretty often and now, on the official website was uploaded the latest beta version, which is 2.12.19.
As a brief history of WhatsApp, the application was launched in 2009, being created by two former employees of Yahoo!, who weren’t accepted by Mark Zuckerberg in his team, so they made a chatting application that conquered the hearts of millions of people in short time. When Zuckerberg saw how popular WhatsApp has become, reaching 500 million users, he spent 19 billion dollars to purchase it and improved the application to bring it to the current state. So, as from February 2014, the number of monthly active users increased by 200 million and soon, more people will joint WhatsApp, especially if they have Android smartphones. In January, the developers launched the Voice Calling feature and they sent invites to random users to join the testing program. These users were allowed to make voice calls to their loved ones and this way, they helped their contacts to enable this feature on their devices, as well. Since then, WhatsApp released many updates, many beta versions with bug fixes and other performance improvements. Now, the users can download the latest beta version (2.12.19) from the WhatsApp website, while in the Google Play Store is found only the stable version, which doesn’t have any bugs.
The new version integrated the new voice calling feature, but as before, the users must be invited by their contacts that have this feature enabled on their devices. Once they give them a voice call, they must restart their phones and after opening WhatsApp, they’ll see the new Calls button in the tab.
Only those who own Android devices running on the 2.1 version and later can install this application and in the first year, they won’t be charged for using its features. After that, they will pay a small sum of 0.99 dollars, annually, to continue using the application, and the payment can be made via PayPal.
