If you are not already part of the more than 700 million people using WhatsApp today, then you must for sure be among the 1 million that signed up today for a WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp has been offering users with free instant messaging services for a period that extends well over five years now and during this period there have been many calls from users of WhatsApp for the introduction of the free voice calling feature. There have also been further calls for this application to introduce a PC version of the app; calls which have finally been heard by WhatsApp as the messenger recently introduced WhatsApp Web for PCs, which is a web client that is designed to allow WhatsApp users access their messages from a PC without using an emulator.
Again, it seems the calls of users for WhatsApp to introduce a free voice calling feature have been heard as this company is finally set to add the voice calling feature to its platform. If this is successful, WhatsApp will become one of the untouchables as far as internet communication is concerned as it will have a full package of what users exactly need.
WhatsApp has now entered the VoIP market and with the large number of users it already boasts, this app will for sure gain more users with this feature, which is where other players like Viber, WeChat, Line and Skype have been beating WhatsApp.
WhatsApp free calls to be rolled out in stages
As it seems, WhatsApp free calls are already in use in some parts of the world while there are other areas without any updates to this feature as we speak. However, there are reported users of iOS devices that have begun noticing some changes in the interface of the latest version of WhatsApp.
The latest version of WhatsApp in iTunes, which is v2.11.15, has been integrated with call buttons and honestly, this cannot be an honest mistake from the developers of the app. It is instead a huge indicator that WhatsApp free calls are just around the corner. There are also additional windows for call logs. However, none of these are functional just yet, which means the feature is not ready just yet.
There are other android users who have side-loaded the latest version of WhatsApp from the official website of the app and with this application running on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, you can make calls to other users of WhatsApp. However, this feature is available only on an invite basis.
Minor changes in WhatsApp Interface
The introduction of WhatsApp voice calls is definitely going to come with some minor changes in the user interface of WhatsApp. There are additional call buttons in the interface of the app and you can see a call symbol besides each person you are chatting with. On the left of the top panel, you can also access the “Call” tab which when selected it opens up a window of other call logs – missed, dialed and received calls.
All iOS users can access these buttons as long as they are using the latest version of WhatsApp. This is however not the case for Android users as the free voice calling feature seems to be limited to certain areas, devices as well as operating systems; with the current images coming from a Nexus 5 running on the latest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Despite everything, this feature will not take long before it is officially launched in full for all users of the app, be it on android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Symbian or Bada. It’s only a matter of time before it is here.
