September 2014 saw the highly anticipated release of The Sims 4. Of course, the game originally released for Windows, and a Mac version was announced soon after. Few words were said about potential console versions, but the developers did hint at the possibility. Various factors are working in the favor of a console port, though. For that reason, console gamers, especially Playstation 4 owners, should expect Sims 4 on their platform within the next nine to 24 months, depending upon various factors.
A Minor Announcement And Rumor Concerning Console Versions
Rumors have been abound about a potential console version of The Sims 4. Most rumors pegged the Playstation 3 as a candidate for the game. However, seeing the game on last generation consoles seems a little odd. The fact of the matter is that the PS3 and Xbox 360 can easily run the game without bogging down. Each rumor seemed to peg late-2015 as the release period for Sims 4 on consoles, but EA hasn’t made any confirmations or announcements concerning the matter up to this point.
All Major Sims Releases Seen On Consoles So Far
Every title from the original Sims to The Sims 3 came out on consoles. Each one saw release about a year or so after the game’s release on Windows. Plus, even some minor Sims titles and related games have gone from Windows to one or more consoles. There’s no reason that EA should buck that trend this time around. Chances are high that console versions are being developed right now, whether an announcement has been made or not. Why would Electronic Arts avoid an opportunity to sell millions more copies?
When should fans expect a release for Playstation 4?
Likely, a Playstation 4 release would come around Fall 2015 in time for the holiday season. Such a date makes the most sense for EA and gamers alike. That gives the company over a year to ensure the ported version is completed properly. Recently, a number of high profile games have been mishandled, angering gamers and creating headaches for developers. A whole year of development should give EA the opportunity to avoid such an outcome. Otherwise, a release in mid- or late-2016 are possibilities, too.
More Information On A PS4 Release of Sims 4
A port of The Sims 4 from the PC to the Playstation 4 would more than likely be a straight port. Aside from optimization for play with a controller, the game shouldn’t be much different from its original form. Graphics and overall gameplay features will remain unchanged in the Playstation 4 version. EA has no incentive to give more features in the PS4 version compared to the original PC version. In the end, that’s not going to matter to gamers that simply want to get their hands on this game for consoles.
The Sims 4: Coming Soon to Consoles
Within a year or two, console gamers can expect Sims 4 to hit the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Chances are decent the game will come to the Xbox 36j0 and PS3, although that’s not a guarantee. An announcement wouldn’t come for another six months or more. At that point, EA would put its marketing might into play in order to get gamers excited about this release. Then again, Sims fans are already hyped about the game’s potential release on consoles.
